FAQ: Process for Custom Invitations

Of all the questions we get here at Gourmet Invitations the most asked is “What is the process for custom invitations?”.  The best way to show you the process is through a past client, Carolina.

Contact Us

Carolina’s wedding designer, the amazing Shay Brown Events, contacted us last year to start the custom invitation design process.  Shay sent over the cake design for Carolina’s wedding.  This gorgeous cake was designed by Buddy the Cake Boss and was the inspiration for the entire wedding.  Sending us photos and mood boards are the perfect items to give us inspiration for your custom invitations.

Meeting

Most of our client “meetings” happen over email, the internet or phone conversation.  In Carolina’s case, she graciously flew us down to North Carolina to meet and go over designs.  You can read more about meeting and information on our Services page.

Quote and Contract

After our initial consultation, the client chooses colors, material and style of invitations.  The quote will discuss all parts of the invitation and printing process.  Once the quote is accepted, a contract is entered and then we can start to fun part…. Design!

Design

We’ll use Carolina’s invitations as our example.  We presented Carolina with three different ideas for the design of the invitations.

  1. Our first design idea was the gorgeous silk gatefold.  Designed with pintucking to match the lower layer of the cake and embedded with Swarovski crystals.  The inside of the invitation would have laser cut metal pieces of roses and ribbon insert holders.cake-inspiration-gourmet-invitations_0004
  2. The second idea was based on Joy’s silk invitation.  The invitation would be designed with a blush Dupioni silk and a custom brooch closure.cake-inspiration-gourmet-invitations_0005
  3. Carolina would ultimately choose the option of a luxurious pocketfold with embossed foil printing, metal appliques.  The pintucking from the cake’s first layer was design on the pocketfold cover. The scrolls and flowers were inspired from the cake’s roses and lace layers.Gourmet-Ochoa-Invitation-Suite

After proofing and editing here is the final product. Through patience and communication, the final product was a result of our collaboration to design the perfect invitation for their wedding.

The process for custom invitations takes a lot of trust and confidence in your invitation designer.  For someone who must see the final product before ordering, they will likely not be a good candidate for custom invitations.  But with a little inspiration, trust and confidence, custom invitations can be the unique introduction to your special event that you are looking for.
