Fishing Themed 30th Surprise Birthday Invitations

This is likely one of my favorite projects of all time.  I get few opportunities to do something completely crazy and unique and where I get complete control of the project.  But one of those people that completely trusts what I do, is my amazing assistant Stacie.  She is not only my right hand, but she is my confidant and one of my closest friends.  So when she asked me to design invitations for her husband’s surprise party, I wanted them to be special.

We wanted the invitations to be very manly and reflect Scott’s personality. We discussed some themes and then I suggested doing a fishing theme since Scott loves his boat and fishing. We discussed hanging a fishing lure on the invitations and Stacie found fishing lures made out of Labatt’s Blue Light beer caps. But once I had the lures in hand, I realized that the hooks were likely to stab someone.  What I can only assume is a first in custom invitations, I put rubber worms on the hooks!

The invitation itself was designed like an old beer label logo with Surprise running across the logo and a fish on a hook and line. The invitations were printed on wood grain cardstock and wrapped in canvas to further the manly, fishing theme of these invitations.
